Construction on the extension of City Boulevard (Graham Street Connector) is scheduled for completion in the Spring of 2013. Once the full “weave” project is completed, City Boulevard will connect to and become University City Boulevard/Highway 49.
The goal of the project will include eliminating the dangerous weave where the I-85 connector joins US29/NC49 and constructing an at-grade intersection at US 29 and NC 49. This will improve the safety in the area and will minimize impacts to property and reduce needed right-of-way. Once this new intersection is in place, a road network can be established to provide access to more than 300 acres of vacant land. Major property owners along the “weave,” working with University City Partners, have expressed a willingness to build a portion of the street network in this area.
