Husqvarna, Biotage add to UC's international community

University City is adding two more feathers in its international cap, with the announcements that Swedish-based Husqvarna Group and Biotage are relocating U.S. headquarters here.
Husqvarna will have its headquarters for North American and Latin American operations at an existing facility at 7349 Statesville Road. Husqvarna is the world's largest producer of lawn mowers, chainsaws and portable gas-powered garden equipment such as trimmers and blowers.
Biotage, a leading supplier of tools and technology for medicinal and analytical chemistry, has leased space at Harris Corners Corporate Park for its U.S. headquarters, previously located in Charlottesville, Va.
The announcements add to an already strong international presence here.

And they make a big impact, accounting for about 9,000 of University City’s 70,000 jobs.
Here’s a quick look:
• Leading the list is the Swiss staffing firm, Adecco, whose offices are at 8520 Cliff Cameron Drive, near Harris and Mallard Creek.
• Flextronics has 830 employees and is just down the road in the old Solectron site. A Singapore-based corporation owns that electronic manufacturing services company.
• Areva is a French owned supplier of engineering, maintenance, manufacturing and nuclear fuel and is on IBM Drive.
• Everyone knows that IKEA is here just across I-85 from URP.
• URP also is home to the German-owned Rack Room Shoes.
• Closer to I-77 at Harris Corners Parkway, you will find CEMEX, a Mexican-owned concrete products company.
• Niscayah is on Old Statesville Road where the Swedish company does security installations.
• Brazil’s Gerdau AmeriSteel is located on Lakeview Road and manufactures concrete reinforcing bars.
