More about the Wine Vault's beer cooler

10.18.2009
The Wine Vault has 250 kinds of beer? Really? No, 300, says Tim Wallace, owner of the landmark wine store and wine bar at University Place. He even writes about them on his web site, www.headwino.com.
The most recent entry is for Thomas Creek Brewery's Kind Beer Pale Ale, brewed in South Carolina.
“Opens up nicely, with subtle caramel malts to balance out the fresh hops. A biscuity sweetness adds warmth, and the lingering finish hints of lemon and citrus!” Wallace writes.
OK, so that sounds like something out of Wine Spectator. The point is, you can buy beer from the guy who actually decided it belongs in his cooler. And then you can sip away, under the trees out front when weather allows or inside in a pleasant Starbucks-style lounge when it doesn’t.
One way to get a good sense of the Wine Vault’s collection is to buy a ticket for this weekend’s Oktoberfest celebration (1-4 p.m. Saturday; limited to 200 people; $20 in advance or $25 on Saturday).
Another way is to become a Wine Vault regular and let Wallace advise on your next selection. You’ll have plenty of company, particularly when the weather turns warm again.
