Total Wine also sells many kinds of beers

10.18.2009
Total Wine is not totally wine, even though it claims to carry several thousand varieties.
“& More” is another way of saying “& Lots Of Beer.” A thousand kinds of beer, the store brochure states.
We didn’t count last week when we visited the University City store at the Grand Promenade Village center on Harris Boulevard near Tryon. But we’ll take their word for it.
We found a large display with hundreds of single bottles from around the world; a walk-in cooler of six-packs and serve-yourself kegs; more aisles of six-packs and cases; and impulse-buy premium beers at the checkout counter.
The University City store even held a beer tasting last weekend to spotlight its many autumn beers.
With so many kinds of beer for sale, you’ll need to get creative to find something you really like.
One way might be to buy a bunch of the individual bottles (not hard, since most cost less than $2), hold a taste testing and keep score.
Or download the six-page-long price list and do on-line research before committing your cash (hint: check out the beer descriptions at beerknurd.com).
In either case, this is a quest that could go on for a long, long time. And for beer lovers, that is a good thing.
