New OrthoCarolina building under way

3.12.2009
OrthoCarolina’s new University City home should begin to rise out of the dirt soon on North Tryon Street near Mallard Creek Church Road.
The medical practice, one of the largest orthopedic groups in America, is building a 26,000-square-foot office building for several physicians now based at two offices in University Medical Park, beside CMC-University.
“Vertical construction should start anytime now,” said Grey Poole of MarkPiercePoole Properties. His company and Greencastle Capital Management are developing the site.
Poole said that OrthoCarolina should move into the two-story building in early 2010.
MarkPiercePoole also has cleared an adjacent tract that can accommodate a 7,000-square-foot office or retail building.
Access is always an issue for properties along North Tryon Street. Poole said that the state has approved a left-over turn lane for southbound traffic on Tryon.
Poole said that his company will also build part of a connection to the nearby Mallard Creek Greenway. A sidewalk along the front of the property will link to land owned by Mecklenburg Parks and Recreation, he said.
The county eventually will build the connection across its land to the greenway trail, which passes under North Tryon Street a few hundred feet south of the OrthoCarolina building.
